# Objectives and scope

> Merops goals, intended users, and available cloud resource integrations

Merops aims to make cloud resources easier to discover, manage, and move between providers. The project focuses on reducing the effort of changing infrastructure and supporting European digital sovereignty by making European cloud providers easier to explore and use.

## Who Merops is for

* Developers who use cloud services and want a simpler way to work across providers.
* Small and medium-sized businesses planning an infrastructure change or data migration.

## Current implementation

Object storage is the first resource category implemented. Merops can connect to five providers and perform supported bucket and object operations, including browsing, previews, migration, and synchronization. See the [compatibility matrix](/services/compatibility.md) for the current provider coverage.

## Planned direction

The product is intended to grow beyond object storage. Managed databases, compute and serverless functions, and other cloud resource categories are future areas of work. Their availability and providers will be added to the compatibility matrix as integrations are implemented.

## Portability limits

Current object transfers move object content. They do not guarantee that provider-specific policies, access controls, lifecycle rules, versions, encryption settings, or other configuration move with the data. Review each destination and verify migrated data before relying on it.
