# Manage Azure Blob Storage

> Create and manage buckets and objects in Microsoft Azure

## Create and use a container

In the Azure portal, open the target **Storage account**, select **Containers**, then choose **+ Container**. Set a name and access level. In Azure Blob Storage, a container fills the role a bucket has in other object storage services.

Open a container to upload, download, inspect, or delete blobs. Deleting a container also deletes the blobs it contains; check soft-delete and retention settings before confirming.

## Change settings and manage blobs

Open the storage account and container in the Azure portal to review access level, metadata, and supported data protection settings. A container's name cannot be changed after creation. Some protection and networking settings are managed at the storage account level.

Use the container's blob list or Storage Explorer to upload, download, replace, or delete blobs. Deleting a container also deletes its blobs, so review the target and retention settings before confirming.

See Microsoft's guides for [managing containers in the Azure portal](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/blob-containers-portal) and [managing blobs with Storage Explorer](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/storage-explorer/vs-azure-tools-storage-explorer-blobs).

## Use it with Merops

Connect this provider with the [Merops connection guide](/providers/azure/connect.md). Merops currently supports object storage operations across its connected providers. The provider console remains the place to configure provider-specific settings and to carry out management actions that Merops does not expose.

Before deleting a container or blob, verify the account, region, and target. Some deletions are permanent or remove all contained data.
