# Connect Google Cloud

> Create a Google Cloud service account key and connect the provider in Merops

Merops uses a Google Cloud service account key in JSON format. Import the downloaded JSON file unchanged: Merops reads the `project_id` from it, so do not copy the values into a `.txt` file or edit the JSON.

## Create a service account key

1. In the Google Cloud Console, select the project that contains the Cloud Storage resources.
2. Open **IAM & Admin** > **Service Accounts** and create a dedicated service account, or select one that is already intended for this integration.
3. Grant it only the Cloud Storage permissions Merops needs, scoped to the relevant project or buckets. For full bucket and object management, the `Storage Admin` role is available; prefer narrower access where your workflow allows it.
4. On the service account's **Keys** tab, choose **Add key** > **Create new key**, select **JSON**, and choose **Create**. The JSON key downloads to your computer and cannot be downloaded again later.

## Import the credential file in Merops

1. In Merops, open **Providers** and choose **Add provider**.
2. Select **Google Cloud** and import the downloaded JSON file without changing it.
3. Enter a display name if requested, then open the new connection and check that its Cloud Storage resources load.

Credential upload accepts a non-empty file up to 10 MiB. A successful import confirms that Merops parsed the file; it does not prove that the service account has permission to perform every operation. Check [permissions guidance](/security-privacy/security/credentials-and-permissions.md).

Google recommends keeping service account keys secure and avoiding long-lived keys when an alternative is available. See the official guides to [creating service account keys](https://cloud.google.com/iam/docs/keys-create-delete) and [Cloud Storage IAM roles](https://cloud.google.com/storage/docs/access-control/iam-roles).
