# Manage Google Cloud Storage

> Create and manage buckets and objects in Google Cloud

## Create and use a bucket

In the Google Cloud console, open **Cloud Storage > Buckets** and choose **Create**. Choose a globally unique name and explicitly select the location, storage class, access, protection, and retention settings that fit your needs. A bucket name cannot be changed after creation.

Open the bucket to upload, download, organize, or delete objects. To remove a bucket, first remove the objects it contains and confirm the intended project and location.

## Change settings and manage objects

Open the bucket in the Cloud Storage console to manage its access, protection, lifecycle, labels, and other supported settings. A bucket's name and location cannot be changed after creation; create a new bucket and move data if those need to change.

From the **Objects** view, upload, download, organize, replace, or delete objects. Review retention and versioning settings before changing or deleting data.

See the Google Cloud guides for the [Cloud Storage console](https://docs.cloud.google.com/storage/docs/cloud-console), [creating buckets](https://docs.cloud.google.com/storage/docs/creating-buckets), [deleting objects](https://docs.cloud.google.com/storage/docs/deleting-objects), and [deleting buckets](https://cloud.google.com/storage/docs/deleting-buckets).

## Use it with Merops

Connect this provider with the [Merops connection guide](/providers/gcp/connect.md). Merops currently supports object storage operations across its connected providers. The provider console remains the place to configure provider-specific settings and to carry out management actions that Merops does not expose.

Before deleting a bucket or object, verify the account, region, and target. Some deletions are permanent or remove all contained data.
